About the Web Atlas Project

About Ubungo District GIS & RS Atlas Welcome to the Ubungo District GIS & RS Atlas, an academic project developed by students of Ardhi University in the Department of Geospatial Sciences and Technology, for the year 2026. This project aims to showcase the urban dynamics, resources, and social infrastructure within Ubungo District using advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) technologies. The project is part of the course GS 334 – Project III: Geospatial Analytics for Societal Challenges, designed to enable students to apply their knowledge in real-world spatial data analysis. Each component of the project – from landcover and land use maps, road and transport networks, to climate maps, land surface temperature, NDVI, and social service locations – has been carefully prepared to provide a comprehensive picture of Ubungo District.

Project objectives: Demonstrate the potential of GIS & RS technologies in urban planning and analysis. Provide useful information for decision-makers, local authorities, and the community. Develop students’ skills in data collection, analysis, and map-based presentation. This atlas is the result of collaboration among students, academic supervisors, and technical experts, emphasizing accuracy, quality, and relevance of data. The maps and information produced highlight land changes, environmental conditions, and social services, and can be used for planning, research, and governance. We invite you to explore, analyze, and understand Ubungo District through our interactive digital maps!
